Sky Stream vs Now TV: Price War Heats Up as Streaming Deals Emerge

Sky Stream and Now TV are increasingly being compared as streaming options, with users debating value for money. A recent discussion on the Sky Community forum highlighted that Now TV is offering a six-month contract at £6.99 per month for Sky Entertainment channels in 720p, including more kids' channels than the equivalent Sky Stream package. Users noted that Now TV allows pausing live streams, similar to Sky Stream, but questioned whether Sky Stream's higher cost justifies its HD quality and additional features.

One user argued that Sky Stream seems expensive for accessing Sky and Freeview channels in HD, especially with the emergence of the Freely platform and streaming apps offering similar content at slightly lower quality. They suggested that Now TV is ideal for those who want occasional access to Sky content without committing to a full TV service, while Sky Stream suits heavy consumers of diverse TV sources seeking simplicity and potentially the best overall deal.

Another user countered that Sky Stream's base pack at £15 includes Netflix (worth £6.99) and Discovery Plus (£5.99), along with a full EPG, Sky Atlantic, and Sky Sports News. They noted that this package may soon include Max when it replaces Discovery Plus, and offers Sky VIP benefits and reduced broadband costs. However, they acknowledged that when adding Boost for HD or UHD, the prices of Now TV and Sky Stream become closer, especially with frequent discounts for both services upon threatening to cancel.

The discussion also highlighted that Now TV's current deal allows adding 1080p and no ads for an extra £2 per month on top of the £6.99 six-month contract. Users emphasised that the two services target different audiences: Now TV for those who dip in and out of Sky content, and Sky Stream for comprehensive TV consumption. One user concluded that Sky Stream's future depends on profitability, noting that Comcast likely sees a market for it, as Sky has historically not reached the majority of UK households.
