Prime Video's Scarpetta Series Sparks Binge-Watch Frenzy

Amazon Prime Video subscribers are eagerly awaiting the release of Scarpetta, a high-octane crime thriller adapted from Patricia Cornwell's bestselling novels. Starring Nicole Kidman as forensic pathologist Dr Kay Scarpetta, the eight-episode series launches on Wednesday, March 11.

The show follows Dr Scarpetta, a razor-sharp medical examiner who returns to her former role in Virginia to investigate a gruesome contemporary murder. The narrative unfolds across dual timelines: the present day, where she tackles a case potentially linked to a career-defining investigation from 28 years earlier, and the late 1990s, exploring her early days as Virginia's Chief Medical Examiner.

The programme boasts a stellar cast, including Jamie Lee Curtis as Kay's unpredictable sister Dorothy Farinelli, Ariana DeBose as her cyber-forensics specialist niece Lucy, and Simon Baker as FBI profiler and husband Benton Wesley. Younger versions of the characters are portrayed by Rosy McEwen and Jake Cannavale.

Nicole Kidman revealed she has pursued the role of Kay Scarpetta for nearly two decades, finally collaborating with Jamie Lee Curtis, whose company Comet Pictures secured the rights in 2021. Author Patricia Cornwell waited 37 years from publishing her first Scarpetta novel, Postmortem, to see the character on screen.

Following a teaser posted by Jamie Lee Curtis on TikTok, fans expressed excitement, with one declaring 'FINALLY! God I love this book series so much!' All eight episodes will be available to binge-watch on Prime Video from March 11.
