Netflix has permanently stopped working on approximately 87 million devices, including Sony's PlayStation 3 (PS3), as of Monday, March 2. The move follows the platform's withdrawal of support for first-generation Amazon Fire TV devices and marks the end of support for the final seventh-generation console.
Users have reported seeing a message on their PS3 consoles stating: "Unfortunately, Netflix will no longer be available on this device after March 2, 2026. Visit netflix.com/compatibledevices to see a list of supported devices." Netflix has not issued an official statement regarding the change.
The PS3, which ceased production in 2017, sold approximately 87.5 million units globally. While many users have moved to modern smart TVs, mobile phones, tablets, or streaming sticks, some still rely on the old console. On Reddit, users expressed mixed reactions, with one saying, "20 years of support is outstanding, honestly," while another lamented, "Nooo, I still use this."
Netflix's decision is part of a broader trend of dropping support for older devices as software evolves. In December 2025, the platform also removed the ability for most users to cast from their phone to a larger screen. As of end of 2025, around 18 million UK homes (over 60%) had access to Netflix, but the latest changes could affect user numbers if affected subscribers do not find alternative ways to watch.
