Prime Video's period drama My Lady Jane has garnered a passionate fanbase since its release two years ago, with many viewers hailing it as superior to Netflix's Bridgerton. The eight-part series reimagines the life of Lady Jane Grey, the 'Nine Day Queen' who was executed for treason in the 16th century, but in this version, she escapes her grim fate.
The show presents an alternative history where Jane marries a man with a secret and becomes queen, all while navigating a magical world where people can transform into animals. The cast includes Emily Bader, Edward Bluemel, Henry Ashton, Anna Chancellor, Dominic Cooper, Rob Brydon, and Jordan Peters.
Fans have been effusive in their praise. One viewer described it as 'the best show of the year' that 'stole my heart in a few minutes', while another called it an 'absolute masterpiece' with a perfect blend of humour and heart. A third fan lamented its cancellation, saying it is 'genuinely the loss of my life'.
Despite critical acclaim and a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score, Prime Video axed the series due to poor viewing figures. Devoted fans have launched a petition to revive the show, which has garnered over 129,000 signatures. Even Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin has backed the campaign, calling the series 'clever and original historical fantasy'.
Episodes of My Lady Jane are available to stream on Prime Video.
