Mayor of Kingstown to End After Season 5

Paramount+ has officially announced that the critically acclaimed crime drama Mayor of Kingstown will draw to a close after its upcoming fifth season. The series, created by Taylor Sheridan of Yellowstone fame, will return for one last outing with Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner leading the cast.

A Gritty Drama Reaches Its Conclusion

The streaming platform confirmed the renewal and subsequent conclusion on 6th January 2026. The final season will see Renner reprise his role as Mike McLusky, the power broker in a Michigan town dominated by its prison system. He will be joined once more by Emmy and Golden Globe winner Edie Falco as Nina Hobbs.

The show has garnered a passionate fanbase, with viewers on IMDb praising it as a "masterpiece" and "brutal, bleak, relentless, thrilling, brilliant TV." One reviewer likened it to a mix of The Wire and The Shield, while another hailed Sheridan as "one of the best writers in Hollywood."

What to Expect in the Final Season

The fourth season, which aired in late 2025, left Mike grappling with a new power vacuum following the departure of the Russians. Paramount has teased that for the fifth and final season, Mike's loved ones are in "more danger than ever before." He will face a new Warden while confronting his own demons from the past.

The final chapter will consist of eight episodes. The series was co-created by Sheridan and Hugh Dillon, who also stars in the show. Jeremy Renner serves as both the lead star and an executive producer.

Part of a Broader Legacy

Mayor of Kingstown is a key title in Taylor Sheridan's expansive portfolio, which includes films like Sicario and Hell or High Water, and series such as Tulsa King and Landman. The show's ensemble cast has also featured Lennie James, Laura Benanti, Hugh Dillon, Taylor Handley, Tobi Bamtefa, Derek Webster, Hamish Allan-Headley, and Nishi Munshi.

The series is available to stream exclusively on Paramount+ in the UK. New subscribers can access the platform through a seven-day free trial offered via Amazon Prime's Paramount+ channel.
