The western crime drama Joe Pickett, which earned a rare 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, has been cancelled by Paramount+ after two seasons. The series, based on characters created by novelist CJ Box, starred Michael Dorman as a game warden in Wyoming.
Dorman portrayed Joe Pickett, a conservation officer who relocates his family to the wilderness near Yellowstone National Park. His life spirals into danger after he discovers a dead body, unravelling a major conspiracy that forces him to protect both his family and the wildlife he is sworn to preserve.
Critics praised the show, with one describing it as an “absorbing, nail-biting, timeless classic.” Another review highlighted that the plot was “full of interesting twists and turns” with “just enough touches of humor to give the overall story world some personality.”
Viewers also heaped praise on the series. One wrote: “I did not know this series existed until yesterday, yep, watched it pretty much non stop.” Another urged: “If you are wanting to watch a very exciting and heartfelt scenes at times this show us for you.”
Despite the acclaim, Paramount+ axed Joe Pickett in 2023, dashing hopes for a third season. Author CJ Box expressed his disappointment, stating: “We’re disappointed and we hope the very talented and very able people behind the show can find a new home for it in the coming months.”
