90s Show Round the Twist Returns to Streaming in Weeks

Australian children's comedy-drama series Round the Twist, which first launched in the 1990s and was broadcast from the BBC's Broom Cupboard, will be available to watch again from September 17 — but on a different channel. The show will be streamed on ITVX.

The Twist Family's Haunted Lighthouse Adventures

Round the Twist tells the story of Tony Twist, a long-suffering dad, and his three children — 14-year-old twins Pete and Linda and 8-year-old Bronson — who move into an old lighthouse on the rugged Australian coast. "Of course the lighthouse is haunted, but that is only the start of the family's adventures," the synopsis adds.

Adapted from the imaginative stories of Paul Jennings, the show became known for its outlandish mysteries and outrageous, slapstick comedy adventures of the wacky Twist family. It was first broadcast in the early 1990s from the BBC Broom Cupboard and ran until May 2001, remaining a fondly remembered classic for kids of all ages.

Creator and Star Reflect on the Show's Legacy

According to The Guardian, writer and creator Jennings said: "When I was writing the stories, I was a single father of four kids who lived in a house on the edge of a wild sea cliff. The Twist family was based on my own real-life family. The fact that we already had around 50 well-worked short stories to pick from [for the series] meant that we hit the ground running with the scripts."

Actress Joelene Crnogorac, who played Linda Twist, commented: "It was Paul Jennings’ genius. The DNA of the scripts and stories – whilst crazy and zany – were always authentic. You can’t fake that. Kids weren’t talked down to, topics weren’t dumbed down. The show lived within the endless potential of a child’s imagination, and as a result, spoke a language that kids understood."

The series will become available to stream on ITVX from September 17.
