The feud between Prince William and Prince Harry continues, with a royal expert revealing the reported reason why the Prince of Wales finds it "impossible to forgive" his brother. The Duke of Sussex returned to the UK in August, but the brothers remain estranged and are believed to have not spoken in around four years.
It is reported that William has not forgiven Harry for stepping down from his duties as a senior working member of the Royal Family in 2020. William is said to be unhappy that his brother left him to cope with the pressure of being the next King alone.
Expert's Insight on the Fallout
Speaking on The Royals podcast, host Roya Nikkhah said: "The extra pressure that Harry and Meghan, and their family, stepping away from it has put on William's own family is something I've always been told is something that he'll find impossible to forgive."
Journalist Jeremy Griffin replied: "That's very interesting but I do think the danger here is that William is going to be King one day and it's probably going to be sooner than he anticipated because the King isn't very well. My fear for William and his reign is that Harry will become his Andrew."
He continued: "That's why I think it's really important that this relationship is repaired. A lot of it goes back to what Harry expects of course. If all he's asking for is 'fraternal repair' if you like, then I get that and I think William should do something to help.
"But, if there's strings attached and that can't happen unless he becomes a working royal once more, then I do see problems as I don't think that should happen and I don't think there is any route back for Harry and Meghan into that sort of inner sanctum of the family, in a professional insitution sense."
Frozen Relationship Since Memoir
The relationship between the brothers has been frozen since Harry released his memoir Spare, which leveled attacks at senior members of the family. He accused William of knocking him onto the floor during a 2019 argument over Meghan Markle's behaviour.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex then carried out an explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey. In the interview, the Sussexes expressed personal grievances against the Royal Family and a lack of support.
Last Encounters
William and Harry were last in the same room at the funeral of their uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, in Norfolk in August 2024. However, they sat on opposite sides of the aisle during the service and did not speak.
Before that, they appeared together at King Charles' coronation in May 2023. However, they did not interact and Harry was pictured sitting two rows behind William.
It is believed they last spoke to each other during Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in September 2022. This included their joint "Windsor walkabout" alongside Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle.
