Princes William and Harry put aside their long-standing feud to walk side by side behind the Queen's coffin at Windsor Castle on Saturday, marking their first public appearance together since March 2020. The joint outing, which included their wives Kate and Meghan, was a poignant show of solidarity as the royal family mourns the late monarch.
The reunion came after William extended an 11th-hour olive branch via text, inviting Harry and Meghan to join the walkabout. The event was delayed by 45 minutes as the Prince of Wales urged his brother to attend, aiming to project harmony between the couples. Royal sources, however, caution that the rekindled friendship may be short-lived, with deep distrust still lingering.
Despite the public display of unity, the brothers have largely kept apart since the Queen's death. Harry travelled alone to Balmoral, dined separately from William, and returned to London alone. Meghan initially planned to accompany Harry but was reportedly advised by King Charles not to join him at the Queen's bedside.
Royal experts note that while the walkabout was a symbolic moment, significant reconciliation is needed to heal the rift. A source said: 'There remains a great sense of distrust in the air. For that to dissipate, there needs to be major reconciliation on the part of those making the most noise.'
