William and Kate Name New Puppy Otto on First Birthday

The Prince and Princess of Wales have announced the name of their new family dog, Otto, in a social media post marking his first birthday. The chocolate cocker spaniel is one of four puppies born to their older dog, Orla, in 2025.

Kensington Palace shared a picture of Otto on X on Friday with the caption: “Welcome to the family, Otto! 1 today.” The princess had confirmed in February that the couple had welcomed a new puppy, describing him as “only eight months” old during a visit to a Welsh woollen mill.

Orla joined the royal household in 2020 after the death of their first dog, Lupo, a black cocker spaniel given as a wedding present by Kate’s brother, James Middleton, in 2011. Lupo died at the age of nine.

Otto and his siblings appeared in Prince William’s 43rd birthday photo last June, showing William gently stroking one of the puppies while Orla stood behind him. The caption read: “Happy birthday! Love C, G, C, L, Orla and the puppies!”

Both dogs also featured in a recent family holiday snapshot taken by Matt Porteous in Cornwall, shared for William and Kate’s 15th wedding anniversary. The image shows the family of five lying in the grass, with Prince Louis resting his legs on his mother.
