The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have announced a week-long programme of engagements in Scotland, beginning this Friday. The Duke will initially travel alone in his role as Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, with the Duchess joining him the following Monday.
Kensington Palace confirmed that the couple will visit Edinburgh, Fife, and undertake their first official joint visit to Orkney. The trip also coincides with the 20th anniversary of their meeting at St Andrews University, where they will meet current students and hear about their experiences during the pandemic.
A palace spokesperson said: “Both he and the duchess are very much looking forward to spending time in Scotland, hearing from a wide range of people on the issues they care about and celebrating individuals who have gone above and beyond to support their communities over the past year.”
The visit follows a 1,250-mile train journey the couple made across Britain last December, during which they thanked people for their efforts during the Covid crisis. Their first stop was Edinburgh, where they were greeted by bagpipes.
