Real Reason Prince Harry and Meghan Skip Trooping the Colour 2026
Why Harry and Meghan Won't Attend Trooping the Colour

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not attend Trooping the Colour today, as they are no longer senior working royals. The couple last attended the historic event in 2019, before stepping down from royal duties in 2020.

King Charles Leads the Celebration

King Charles will be joined by Queen Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children, as well as Prince Edward and Princess Anne at the event. Trooping the Colour, held every June, marks the monarch's official birthday and is one of the biggest events in the royal calendar.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who now live in California with their children, have not been included in the guest list since stepping back from royal duties. In 2020 and 2021, the ceremony was scaled down due to the pandemic, and since King Charles's first Trooping the Colour in 2023, only senior working royals have participated.

The Balcony Appearance

The highlight of the day is when the royals step onto the Buckingham Palace balcony to wave to spectators. Meghan last attended the event in 2019, her first public appearance after welcoming son Archie. She has not returned to the UK since 2022.

Prince Harry is expected to return to the UK next month for the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games. It remains unclear whether Meghan and their children will join him.
