Donald Trump has repeatedly shared his candid views on the British Royal Family, offering comments on senior members including King Charles, Prince Harry, and Princess Catherine. The US President has not held back in expressing his opinions, whether in interviews with reporters or in posts on X, formerly Twitter.
Trump's Changing View of King Charles
During a visit to the White House while Keir Starmer was Prime Minister, Trump received a letter from the King inviting him for a second state visit. Trump described Charles as "a beautiful man, a wonderful man," adding, "I've known him, gotten to know him very well, actually, first term and now second term."
However, their relationship was not always so warm. The pair first met in 2019 when Charles was still Prince of Wales. According to former White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham, Trump was "bored" and found the meeting "terrible" after their first encounter over tea at Clarence House.
Trump's Criticism of Prince Harry and Meghan
Prince Harry moved to California with his wife Meghan Markle in 2020, remaining there for six years before the couple returned to the UK. Trump had commented on the prince's time in the US, accusing the couple of treating the late Queen "very disrespectfully."
Despite this, Trump appeared to rule out deporting Harry, saying, "I'll leave him alone," and adding, "He's got enough problems with his wife. She's terrible." Meghan had previously called Trump "divisive" and a "misogynist." When asked about the Sussexes returning to the UK, Trump said, "I'm happy about it," adding, "I was not a fan."
Trump's Praise and Past Criticism of Princess Catherine
Trump praised Princess Catherine during a state visit, calling her "perfect" and "so great." Referring to her cancer diagnosis at the time, he asked, "How's she doing?" and praised her bravery, saying, "She's so great. She was sick, people said crazy things about her, and she was so brave."
Years earlier, Trump had commented on the princess after paparazzi photographed her sunbathing topless during a private holiday in 2012. At the time, he tweeted: "Kate Middleton is great - but she shouldn't be sunbathing in the nude - only herself to blame."
