Trump slams Meghan Markle after Sussexes' UK move

Donald Trump has criticised Meghan Markle following her move to the UK, saying he did not like the way she acted and thought she was “terribly disrespectful” to the Queen and King Charles.

The Duchess of Sussex, alongside her husband, Prince Harry, and their children, relocated back to Britain last week. This is the first time they have lived in Harry’s home country since 2020, when they quit royal duty and moved to America. They have frequently criticised their life in Britain and their time as working royals, with their relocation back to the UK sending shockwaves around the world.

Trump's criticism of the Duchess

While the couple are no longer working royals, the US President said if he were a member of the Royal Family, he would not want them back in the UK. When asked in the White House about his reaction to Harry and Meghan moving back to Britain, Trump hurled criticism at Meghan and the way she acted when she was living in the UK.

He said: “I didn’t like the way she acted. I thought she was terribly disrespectful to the Queen, to King Charles.”

History of remarks

Trump also said he is “happy” they no longer live in America, claiming he was not a “fan” of the couple, who he said treated the Royal Family with “great disrespect”. He said: “I thought they treated the Royal Family with great disrespect. I didn’t like it. I wouldn’t have taken them back. If I were in the Royal Family, I would not have taken him back.”

While Trump has been critical of Harry before, he seems to have a particular dislike towards Meghan, having made numerous comments about her previously. He once called her “terrible” in an interview and has repeatedly said he does not like her. This included in an interview with Nigel Farage on GB News in 2021.

Trump said at that time: “I’m not a fan of hers. I wasn’t from day one. I think Harry has been used horribly, and I think some day he will regret it. I think Harry’s been used and been used terribly. I think it’s ruined his relationship with his family, and it hurts the (late) Queen. She (Meghan) is trying to do things that I think are very inappropriate.”
