Tom Cruise praises 'beautiful' Princess Kate after royal premiere

Tom Cruise has shared his thoughts on Princess Kate after describing her and Prince William as "beautiful people". William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, reportedly attended the London premiere of his new film, Alejandro González Iñárritu's Digger, last week.

Kate arrived at the Royal Film Performance charity event in a purple gown by Jenny Packham, which clearly impressed the actor. He called the dress "stunning" and joked that William "did well".

What Tom Cruise said about the royal couple

The Mission Impossible star said: "They are amazing people. How dedicated they are to their country and what they give to the world. They're just beautiful people – and fun!"

Speaking about Kate, he added: "She's very funny. She's got a great sense of humour. Obviously very intelligent and fun. And her dress, of course both of them, they're so charismatic. So elegant, that dress that she was wearing – it was stunning."

He also remarked: "William did well. Will, way to go. Smart choice. I've got to give it to William, smart choice."

A royal connection beyond the Waleses

At the event, Tom was seen guiding the Princess of Wales down the stairs at Leicester Square's Odeon Luxe, with William walking beside them in a black tuxedo jacket and bowtie.

Tom's ties to the royal family extend further. He hosted part of a horse show during the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee and had tea with her at Windsor Castle. A source told The Sunday Times: "Just the two of them had tea together. She loved seeing him, and they really hit it off, so much so that she invited him back for lunch."

Before the 2022 festivities, Tom spoke to Phillip Schofield and Julie Etchingham about the late monarch, saying: "She's a woman I greatly admire. She has tremendous dignity and I admire her devotion. What she has accomplished has been historic."

He added: "I remember as a kid, seeing photos of her. I travelled around a lot and I came to England to make movies in 1982. I love the history and I just have great respect for her."

Tom also suggested King Charles could be his "wingman" in a pre-recorded message for the 2023 Coronation, alongside comments from Pierce Brosnan and Bear Grylls. In the segment, Pierce noted that Charles had "got his wings as a fully trained RAF pilot". Tom said: "Pilot to pilot, Your Majesty, you can be my wingman any time."
