Taylor Swift and NFL star Travis Kelce are set to wed in a three-day celebration at Madison Square Garden (MSG) in New York City next weekend, according to sources and city officials. The pop star, 36, and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 36, will tie the knot on July 2 in an intimate ceremony for about 100 guests at the iconic 22,000-seat arena, followed by a larger reception for approximately 1,000 people the next day.
Permit Filed for Street Closures Around MSG
A permit has been filed with city officials to close streets surrounding MSG next week, coinciding with the eve of America’s 250th Independence anniversary. New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed the department is preparing for a packed calendar of summer events, including the possibility of Swift's wedding. “Any one of those on their own would be a big deal in New York City. All of them taken together are unprecedented and are going to place unusual, and I would say historic, demands on the New York City Police Department,” Tisch said.
City Officials Confirm Preparations
A city official told the New York Times that MSG is preparing to host the star-studded wedding. New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani said the city is ready to handle mega events and is “excited to welcome the world here.” He added, “It feels like a city that is coming to life.” On the couple's big day, Mamdani said, “I wish them a lovely wedding,” but noted he was not invited and would listen to Swift's song “Only the Young” at home.
Venue Known for Major Events
Madison Square Garden is renowned for hosting boxing matches, concerts, and as the home of the New York Knicks, the current NBA champions. The nearby New York New Jersey Stadium is set to host the World Cup final on July 19. Swift and Kelce became engaged in August 2025, and their wedding plans have generated significant public interest.
