Stacey Dooley: Liverpool 'feels like home', Scousers 'the best'

Stacey Dooley has spoken about her move to Merseyside, her deep-rooted love for Liverpool, and her happiness that her daughter will grow up as a Scouser. The journalist and documentary maker moved to Merseyside two years ago with her partner, former Strictly Come Dancing professional Kevin Clifton, and their daughter.

The couple have previously spoken about how much they love their home, how it took only one viewing for them to decide to move, and its significance for the family because it meant being closer to Stacey's mum and Minnie's nan, who also lives on Merseyside.

Family roots and a sense of belonging

Stacey's family hails from Speke, while she was born in Luton and spent much of her time in London. Despite this, she says she has always had an affinity for Liverpool.

Her comments came to light during a chat on the Home Again podcast produced by SpareRoom, an online flatmate finding service in the UK. In the episode, which aired earlier this week, Stacey heaped praise on Scousers, saying they are "the best", and explained why she feels more at home in Liverpool than Luton.

"I've never met a bad Scouser"

Discussing why she decided to move to the North West, Stacey told the presenters: "Scousers really are the best. London's brilliant, and I love the South, and that's where I grew up, but I do feel at home in Liverpool."

"It's very bizarre, [because...] I feel more at home in Liverpool than I ever did in Luton, which sounds bonkers, doesn't it?"

"But I think because it's my maternal side, I just love Liverpool, and it felt like coming home, and I'm so pleased that my daughter will be brought up Scouse."

"I'm just delighted to be surrounded by [Scousers] day to day."

She added: "I think because [of] my mum and my nan, it feels very familiar. It feels like part of who I am."

"[...] I've never met a bad Scouser. [...] They are just the most decent people I've ever come across."

"Like, I'll get off the train, [...] they'll never see you struggle with the buggy or the bags you know."

"I just love them. I'm just like team team team team team Scouse. I'm actually quite like protective of them almost. Love them."

New BBC documentary series

Stacey has a new BBC documentary series called Clickbait Clinic, alongside Dr Alex George and Dr Nighat Arif, investigating wellness trends to determine which are scams and which could actually be life-changing.
