Lady Helen Wogan, the wife of late broadcasting legend Sir Terry Wogan, left a substantial fortune of nearly £5 million in her will, according to documents approved by the High Court. Lady Helen passed away last year at the age of 88, just over eight years after her husband's death in 2016.
The will reveals that after deducting costs and fees of £31,000, the net estate was valued at £4,917,989. In her will, Lady Helen made two tax-free gifts to her children: £850,000 to her son Alan, who is also an executor of the estate, and £750,000 to her daughter Katherine.
Each of Sir Terry and Lady Helen's grandchildren has been provided with a £100,000 trust fund, which they will be able to access upon reaching the age of 25. The remainder of the estate, including personal possessions and further money, is to be divided equally among their three living children: Mark, Alan, and Katherine.
At the time of her death, the couple's son released a heartfelt statement describing Lady Helen as 'the epitome of style and grace' and a 'proper lady in every sense of the word'. The statement added: 'She and Dad are hopefully sharing a vodka martini and hoping we don’t make too much of a fuss.'
Sir Terry Wogan, a beloved BBC Radio 2 presenter and Children in Need host, died of cancer in January 2016 at the age of 77. Just months before his death, he had announced his diagnosis of prostate cancer and stepped away from his broadcasting duties.
