Prince Harry has not met his father, King Charles, since his return to the UK in August, despite a phone call between them. The Duke of Sussex, 42, did visit the King and Queen at Highgrove House during a family trip to Britain earlier this summer.
Harry's UK visits and family contact
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the UK in early July during their European holiday, weeks before they revealed they would be returning. During that July visit, the King was reunited with his two youngest grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Although Harry and Meghan have returned to the UK, the Duke has yet to meet his father in person. A source told PEOPLE that Harry spoke to the King on the phone within his first week back.
Harry's desire to reconcile
In a recent interview with GQ, filmed in New York City, Harry spoke about his wish to reconcile with his family. He said he grieves his relationship with his brother, Prince William, and his father.
“I think from a family perspective, again, another massively relatable issue for so many people, sibling disagreements, broken relationships between kids and their parents, kids and one parent,” Harry said.
“That continues to come up with me the whole time with people that I speak to, so I know how relatable it is. People maybe look at us and go, ‘How are you gonna work it out? Maybe that will help me work my stuff out’.”
Call for reconciliation
Harry told GQ he encourages letting go, adding: “But, for me, there’s enough drama in the world – and enough drama in people’s lives – to continue with issues with family.”
He also said: “Some people don’t want it to work out. I want it to work out. With everything else that’s going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile — that’s the key point. Scars stick around forever but… what your perception is and what your mindset is to those things that have happened, certainly letting go of the past, that’s something that I would encourage everybody to do.”
