A Saudi royal known as 'the sleeping prince' has died after spending 20 years in a coma. Prince Al Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud was 36 years old.
The prince fell into a coma following a car accident in London while studying as a military cadet. He suffered internal bleeding and severe brain injuries and never fully regained consciousness.
Prince Al Waleed was hospitalised at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, where he was kept on a ventilator until his death. His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, confirmed the news on social media, expressing deep sorrow and asking for prayers.
Despite some minor physical responses over the years, the prince remained in a critical condition. His father had opposed withdrawing life support and frequently visited him.
Funeral prayers for Prince Al Waleed are scheduled to be held at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh.
