Sarah Ferguson has returned to the UK, with reports suggesting the likely reason is to spend more time with her grandchildren and her two daughters. The 66-year-old has been dealing with the fallout of her friendship with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and her recent whereabouts were unknown as she moved out of her former home, which she shared with her ex-husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, earlier this year.
Fifth Grandchild Arrives
Sarah recently received some happy news: she became a grandmother for the fifth time last month. Princess Eugenie, Sarah's youngest daughter, welcomed her third child, a daughter named Adelaide, in early August. Baby Adelaide is a little sister to August, five, and Ernest, three, and was born in Portugal.
In addition to Eugenie's children, Sarah is also grandmother to Princess Beatrice's two daughters, Sienna, five, and Athena, one.
Royal Editor Weighs In
Speaking on HELLO!'s A Right Royal Podcast, royal editor Emily Nash said: "I think the fact that she's come back now is really interesting. And there are a couple of things that could be behind it."
Nash noted one possibility: "She may potentially have inherited some money from her great friend whose property she was staying in in Switzerland (Paddy McNally)." However, she added: "But I think probably the key thing for her will be her grandchildren and wanting to spend more time with them. She's just welcomed a new granddaughter, Adelaide."
Family Ties
Nash continued: "And while Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank are based in Portugal, they do come back and forth. But she also has Beatrice's children. And what grandmother doesn't want to be closer to them? She can't live in exile forever."
The family of five are known to spend half of their time in Portugal and the other half in England due to Jack's work commitments.
