Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, has publicly defended Prince Andrew following his widely criticised BBC interview about his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Despite their divorce in 1996, the former couple have remained close and continue to live together.
In a Twitter post, Ferguson described Andrew as a “true and real gentleman” who is “stoically steadfast to not only his duty but also his kindness and goodness.” She added on Instagram that they have “always walked tall and strong, him for me and me for him.”
The Duchess faced her own scandal in 1992 when paparazzi photos emerged of her with John Bryan. In her autobiography “My Story,” she recounted how Andrew supported her, telling her: “I will completely support you.” She also criticised Palace aides, referring to one as “Mr Z,” for failing to intervene to prevent publication of the photos.
Friends of Ferguson told The Telegraph she was “staggered” the interview went ahead and had no involvement in its organisation, believing the Duke’s private secretary Amanda Thirsk “pushed for it.”
