BBC Breakfast was briefly halted on Wednesday morning as presenter Sally Nugent delivered breaking news that a 15-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of Harvey Willgoose, who was fatally stabbed at All Saints Catholic High School in Sheffield on Monday.
Nugent announced: 'We're just going to bring you some breaking news that we've had in the last few moments, this has come from the Crown Prosecution Service just a moment ago. They've confirmed that a 15-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of Harvey Willgoose, who was 15, who was stabbed at school in Sheffield earlier this week.'
Co-presenter Jon Kay added that the attack took place on Monday afternoon, and the name of the charged boy cannot be disclosed due to his age. The accused is set to appear at Sheffield Youth Court later today.
Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor Chris Hartley reminded the public that criminal proceedings are active and that the youth has a right to a fair trial, urging no reporting or commentary that could prejudice the case.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Harvey's family described their devastation, saying: 'Our lives are devastated and will never be the same again. We have lost a beloved son, brother, grandson, cousin, nephew and most importantly, a best friend to all.'
