Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez are rumoured to be getting married in Portugal this weekend. The couple, who announced their engagement in August last year, have not officially confirmed the date, but reports suggest they will say "I do" at the historic Funchal Cathedral in Ronaldo's hometown, the capital of Madeira. They may then celebrate at the five-star Savoy Palace hotel in Funchal.
How They Met
The pair first crossed paths in mid-2016 at a Gucci store in Madrid, Spain, where Georgina worked as a sales assistant. In her Netflix documentary, Soy Georgina, she revealed she was asked to stay 30 minutes late to assist a VIP client. As she was leaving, Cristiano arrived with his eldest son, Cristiano Jr., and friends. Georgina felt "butterflies" as they felt an "instant" attraction. She said, "I was finally able to leave the shop to go home three hours later than I should have and as I was getting ready to leave, Cristiano came in with his eldest son and some friends. Let's just say it was butterflies in my stomach."
Going Public
After their first meeting, they began dating, with Cristiano picking Georgina up in a Bugatti. Her coworkers "went crazy," and by the end of the year, she quit her job due to crowding fans. In January 2017, they made their red carpet debut at the FIFA Best Awards in Zurich. In May 2017, they went Instagram-official with a photo of them on a sofa, captioned with a red heart emoji.
Family Milestones
In June 2017, Cristiano announced the birth of twins Eva and Mateo via surrogate. Weeks later, he confirmed Georgina was pregnant with their first child together. Their daughter Alana Martina was born in November 2017. In October 2021, they announced they were expecting twins, sharing a sonogram selfie. In December, a video revealed they were expecting a boy and a girl. Tragically, their baby boy died during childbirth, while his sister Bella Esmeralda survived. Cristiano shared: "It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away. It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness."
Engagement After Nine Years
In August 2025, Georgina confirmed their engagement with a close-up of her left hand wearing a huge oval-cut diamond ring, captioned "Yes I do. In this and in all my lives." On Piers Morgan's Uncensored podcast, Cristiano revealed the proposal: "It was like 1am, and my daughters were in bed sleeping. One of my friends gave me the ring to offer to Gio, and as I was giving her the ring, my two daughters came in and said, 'Daddy, you're going to give the ring to mum, and you're going to ask her to get married.' And I said, 'Wow, this was the right moment.'" He added, "I always say that good things come in at the right time. I said, 'I'm going to propose to her because I think it's the right moment.' Not only because she's the mother of my kids, but she's the person I love. She's the love of my life."
Wedding Speculation
Despite the rumours, Cristiano's sisters, Elma and Katia Aveiro, have denied a wedding is happening this weekend, and no bookings are confirmed under their names at the cathedral. Fans remain guessing as no official announcement has been made.
