The final live show of Strictly Come Dancing in 2025 was an emotional affair, marked by a special royal tribute to its departing presenters. Queen Camilla sent a heartfelt message to hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman as they prepared to step down after more than a decade together.
A Royal Farewell to a Legendary Duo
The pair had announced their departure from the BBC dancing competition back in October. During the grand final on Saturday 20 December 2025, following performances from finalists Amber Davies, Karen Carney, and George Clarke, the focus turned to the two women who had helmed the show.
Judge Craig Revel Horwood read a personal message from the Queen to the studio audience and millions watching at home. Camilla, a self-confessed superfan who attends Silver Swans ballet classes, expressed her admiration.
"As you prepare to take your final twirl, I just wanted to say thank you on behalf of the millions who watch you each week," the Queen's statement began. She reflected that Strictly is ultimately about "friendships: the bonds forged, the struggles overcome and the joy shared."
Praising their unique chemistry, she added, "The warmth, compassion and sheer happiness you have radiated with and from each other has been at the heart of the show’s success. I think I speak for everyone when I say you have been utterly fab-u-lous." She concluded by wishing them success and urging them with the show's famous catchphrase: "Keeeeeeeep dancing!"
Emotional Final Bow for Beloved Presenters
The royal tribute was part of a wider celebration of Daly and Winkleman's tenure. A video montage featured messages from fans, crew, and celebrities like Mary Berry. Both presenters were visibly moved by the outpouring of affection.
"Thank you so much to you all for your lovely words, it has meant the world," said Daly, acknowledging the support they had received over the years. Winkleman echoed the sentiment, stating, "It’s been an absolute privilege to spend our weekends with you."
Their final appearance as a pairing will be in the pre-recorded Strictly Christmas special, airing on 25 December. The duo's impact on British television is underscored by their Bafta TV Award for Best Entertainment Programme in 2024 and their appointment as MBEs in the King’s Birthday Honours for services to broadcasting.
Royal Family Support Extends to Trailblazing Contestant
The Queen was not the only royal to share a message during the final. The Duchess of Edinburgh, Sophie, sent a video praising contestant Ellie Goldstein, who made history as the first celebrity with Down’s syndrome to compete on Strictly.
Goldstein, who returned for a group dance in the final, was commended by the Duchess, a patron of Mencap. "She has dispelled quite a number of perceptions of people with learning disabilities," said Sophie.
The 2025 final thus served as a celebration not only of dance but of the inclusivity and heartfelt partnerships that have defined Strictly Come Dancing's enduring appeal, championed from the dance floor to the highest levels of society.
