The mystery behind the late Queen's personalised MYT number plate has been solved, with a former royal butler revealing it was a private joke linked to her official title. Grant Harrold, who served as butler to the royals, said the plate was likely a tongue-in-cheek present from Prince Philip.
Plate Linked to Queen's Official Title
Harrold told Regtransfers that the plate, which appeared on the Queen's personal vehicle at Sandringham, is believed to reference the 'Most Mighty' part of her official title. The full title includes 'Most High, Most Mighty, and Most Excellent Monarch, Elizabeth the Second'.
The late monarch was photographed with variations of the plate, starting with MTY 1 and progressing to MYT 2 and MYT 3, since the 1960s. Harrold said the plate was a gift from Prince Philip, who had 'an incredible sense of humour'.
Alternative Origin Suggested
Harrold noted that some claim the plate was actually a present from the then Prince Charles to his mother. He said the message behind it remains the same regardless of the giver, describing it as a 'fun, lighthearted' look at the royals.
The plates held such significance that vehicles bearing them were driven behind the hearse at the Queen's funeral. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were married for 73 years until his death in 2021.
