The Princess of Wales has a strict rule for her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis: no shouting in the house. The rule, reportedly in place since the children were young, is designed to encourage them to talk about their feelings instead of raising their voices.
How the rule is enforced
A source told The Sun in 2020 that shouting is "absolutely 'off limits'" for the children. Any hint of shouting at each other is dealt with by removal. The source explained: "They are taken away from the scene of the row or disruption and talked to calmly by either Kate or William. Things are explained, and consequences outlined, and they never shout at them."
Both William and Catherine reportedly encourage their children to process their thoughts and feelings calmly and to understand their emotions.
Open communication in the royal family
The Prince of Wales recently said the family are very open with one another and honest with their children. In an interview with Brazilian television host Luciano Huck from the Domingão show last year, William revealed: "Every family goes through difficult times and faces challenges together. How you deal with those moments makes all the difference."
He added: "We decided to tell our children everything, both the good news and the bad. We explain to them why certain things happen and why they might feel upset. Many questions might come up without answers - I think all parents go through that. There's no rulebook for being a parent, and we chose to talk about everything."
Catherine, who is a hands-on mother, prioritises her children by staying at home when William is away for royal engagements, doing the daily school run, and attending sports matches and school events frequently.
