Princess Kate reveals she 'loves' washing up on village visit

The Princess of Wales has revealed she loves doing the washing up, a household chore she says she gets “very into”. The admission came during a visit to the village of Pulborough in West Sussex last week, where she met volunteers for the West Sussex Minibus service.

Catherine travelled to Pulborough village hall with elderly locals and spent lunch with them, discussing the importance of community events such as the weekly lunch gathering. She also spent time getting to know those who attend the hall each week.

‘I love washing up’

During the conversation, someone told the princess: “You know you’ve got to wash up.” She replied: “I’ve got to wash up? I love washing up. I get very into washing up, so if you get me involved in that I’ll be here.”

The princess then said Prince William does the drying up, making them a “good double act”. She also revealed that her three children “enjoy it as well”, before joking that it is a shame for dishwashers.

Warm reaction on social media

Before leaving the hall, Catherine said: “Thank you for having me. I feel like I’m slightly gatecrashing.” After being reassured she was not gatecrashing, the exchange was videoed and shared on social media, with many people warming to the future queen as a result of her love for ordinary daily chores.

One person wrote on X: “She is just so natural.” Someone else said: “She’s so down to earth.” Another royal fan added: “She’s just so lovely.”

Ordinary home life

Washing up is not the only ordinary thing the princess does away from the royal spotlight. It is also well-known that Catherine does daily errands like the school run by herself every day, as well as cooking for her children. This is despite the fact that the family could have royal staff do these jobs if they wanted to.

Both Princess Catherine and Prince William have felt strongly about having no live-in staff and giving their children as ordinary an upbringing at home as possible.
