Princess Eugenie has shared a touching tribute to her mother, Sarah Ferguson, on Instagram to mark Scoliosis Awareness Month. The princess expressed her gratitude for her mother's early detection of her scoliosis, a condition causing curvature of the spine, which led to successful surgery when Eugenie was 12.
In the post, Eugenie included a childhood photo of herself with Ferguson on the school run. She wrote: 'My mum caught my scoliosis early and I was lucky enough to get the help I needed at 12 years old. I thank her so much for that and also thank her for the confidence to be proud of my scar.'
Eugenie, now patron of Scoliosis Association UK, famously displayed her surgical scar in her open-back wedding dress designed by Peter Pilotto when she married Jack Brooksbank in October 2018. She said the dress was a way to honour those who cared for her and to stand up for young people with similar conditions.
The post attracted widespread praise, with fans sharing their own stories and commending the princess for raising awareness. One follower noted: 'Your openness about your scoliosis... will have helped a lot of young people.'
Eugenie and Jack have two sons, August and Ernest, and split their time between the UK and Portugal, where Jack works on the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club development.
