Princess Beatrice has shared an emotional poem in honour of her grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, with the verses written by her brother-in-law, Alby Shale. The poem, released through the Princess’s husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi on Instagram, pays tribute to the Queen’s guidance, teaching and love over the years.
The poem references the Queen’s first and last Prime Ministers, Winston Churchill and Liz Truss, with the line “evolving from Churchill to Truss”. It also thanks Her Majesty for “meeting Paddington Bear” and “meeting James Bond 0007”, nods to the late monarch’s famous skits during her Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Princess Beatrice, who is now ninth in line to the throne and has become a Counsellor of State, gave permission for Mr Mapelli Mozzi to publish the poem. He wrote: “Your Majesty, Thank you. Thank you to my wonderful brother Alby Shale for writing this for Beatrice and thank you for allowing us to share it. Thank you.”
Alongside the poem, Mr Mapelli Mozzi shared a series of photographs, including an unseen picture of the Queen with Prince Philip on their wedding day, as well as images of the monarch driving as a young woman and with her beloved corgis. He also posted a photo of the Queen and Prince Philip arriving at his July 2020 wedding to Princess Beatrice.
In a separate tribute, Mr Mapelli Mozzi wrote: “Incredibly hard to process the last 24 hours. What an incredible woman and extraordinary mark she’s left on the entire world. She was the rock on which modern Britain was built.” He added that the couple’s “little ones” had spent time with the Queen this summer. Earlier this week, he was seen quietly looking at floral tributes for the Queen at Green Park.
