Princess Anne, known for her no-nonsense attitude and tireless work ethic, has a more relaxed side that the public rarely sees, according to Scottish former royal butler Grant Harrold. Harrold, who worked for King Charles when he was Prince of Wales, says Anne is one of the most laid-back members of the Royal Family despite her dedicated reputation.
Relaxed appearance at Commonwealth Games
Speaking to OLBG, Harrold reflected on Anne's recent appearance at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The former butler, from Airdrie, said it was refreshing to see the 75-year-old royal looking more relaxed than usual. "It's nice to see her more laid back," he said.
Harrold believes Anne's more casual style reflects the changing image of the monarchy under King Charles. "We usually see her dressed to impress and in work mode, but she has really stripped it back," he explained. "I think she is starting to lean into the new era of the Royal Family and the modern way they are doing things."
Behind the scenes personality
Anne is consistently ranked among the busiest royals, carrying out hundreds of engagements yearly. However, Harrold said her personality behind the scenes often surprises those who only see her in public. The 48-year-old said: "But while she is often in work mode, she is also one of the most laid-back members of the Royal Family, but don’t let that catch you off guard. She is very much like her father - she will catch you out."
Like her late father, Prince Philip, Anne is known for being direct and straightforward. Harrold revealed that while she is warm and approachable, she also commands respect. "She is absolutely lovely, but you don't want to get on the wrong side of her," he said.
No signs of slowing down
Despite approaching her 76th birthday in a few days, Harrold believes there is little chance of Anne slowing down or stepping back from royal life anytime soon. "She is a workaholic. If you look over the past couple of years, she hasn't stopped," he shared.
As she continues to support her brother, King Charles, Harrold believes her commitment mirrors that of her late mother, Queen Elizabeth. "She has always been very detail-oriented, like her mother, Queen Elizabeth," he said. "I truly think she will continue working like her mother up until a very old age."
