Princess Anne's 20p dessert trick to end dinner parties on time

Princess Anne has a witty way of ensuring her dinner guests leave at a suitable time, handing them a choc ice to eat in the car.

Known for her dry and droll sense of humour, the Princess Royal previously revealed her method: "After all, one wants everyone out of the house by 9.15pm at the latest. For pudding, I pass them a choc ice to eat in the car."

A Sweet Send-Off

Royal dinner parties are governed by centuries of strict protocol, extensive planning, and dining rules. But one thing that remains the same is that no host likes their guests overstaying their welcome, and that includes Princess Anne.

The iconic bar of vanilla ice cream coated in chocolate usually comes in a box of eight and can be bought for between £1 and £2 in major UK supermarkets.

Healthy Royal Diet

Despite treating her guests with the sweet treat, Anne herself is known to have a rather healthy diet, with fairly unusual dietary requests that keep her in top form.

Former royal chef Darren McGrady explained while speaking to TODAY: "Princess Anne almost always preferred the bananas almost black - overripe - because they digest easier."

The Princess Royal, much like her late mother, also eats kippers for breakfast, which are packed full of nutrients and contribute to health and longevity. Her love of the salty fish was revealed by a complimentary letter she previously sent to Fortune Kippers, a 154-year-old company founded and based in Whitby, Yorkshire.

The company's website revealed the accolade the Princess Royal gave them: "Members of the Royal Family have also been known to enjoy our kippers and HRH Princess Anne has written to Barry and Derek telling them how much she enjoys their kippers."
