Princess Anne has been praised for sharing her late mother Queen Elizabeth II's wicked sense of humour, with a biographer revealing she often cracks great one-liners. The 72-year-old Princess Royal has been a pillar of strength for the Royal Family during the mourning period, but she also possesses a lighter quality that echoes the Queen's wit.
Brian Hoey, Anne's official biographer, told The Express about the royal's humorous side. He recalled an event in Houston, Texas, where a civic dignitary congratulated Anne on her mother being 're-elected' and another claimed to know her grandfather, Winston Churchill. After leaving, Anne reportedly said: 'My God, it's enough to make your hair curl.' She then looked at Hoey, who was losing his hair, and added: 'Well perhaps not in your case.'
Hoey explained that Anne only jokes about people she cares about, saying: 'Her private secretary said to me that evening: "You know what, when she made a joke about you, she said that as a term of affection. She would never make a joke about any stranger, only about somebody she was comfortable with."'
The Queen was known for her sense of humour, with Sir David Attenborough recently recalling their 'precious laughter'. Anne also shared a love of horses and fashion with her mother, and the pair had a strong bond. The Princess Royal recently accompanied her mother's coffin from Balmoral to Edinburgh, showing her dedication.
