Prince William is reportedly experiencing an "I told you so" moment following Prince Harry's return to the UK, with an insider claiming the Prince of Wales remains affected by past stress caused by Harry and Meghan.
Harry, his wife Meghan, and their children Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, relocated from California two weeks ago. The Sussexes' surprise return, after living in the US since 2020 when they stepped down as senior working royals, has generated significant press coverage.
Strained relations and concerns
Prince William has had a strained relationship with his brother in recent years. Reports suggest the future King was concerned that Harry and Meghan's return to the UK could reopen old wounds.
A source told Us magazine: "There was cautious optimism that perhaps they would arrive in silent dignity and not stir up drama, but William was much less optimistic than the King and was proven right because right now he's having an 'I told you so' moment."
Stress before Kate's diagnosis
The insider claimed William has not spoken to Harry, adding: "William also hasn't gotten over all the stress that Harry and Meghan caused leading up to Kate's cancer diagnosis."
"She finally reached remission, only for them to come back to the UK and create more stress for everyone," the source added.
King's reiteration and letter
On Monday, the King reiterated that the Sussexes remain private citizens despite their return. A letter from royal aide Lord Benyon, whose office organises the King's ceremonial and public-facing events, made clear the Duke and Duchess do not use their HRH styles and that any operational security issues involving them should be directed to relevant police authorities.
It is understood Harry and Meghan were surprised by the letter. The contents were reportedly sent to the couple's team about an hour before it was revealed to the media.
Focus on family
Harry and Meghan are "happy to be back" in the UK, according to reports. It is claimed that getting Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet settled "remains their focus", and both children have started the new school year in Britain.
