Prince Harry has revealed the four-word response his brother, Prince William, gave when told that Meghan Markle was pregnant with their first child. The disclosure comes from Harry's memoir, Spare, in which he recounts the moment at Princess Eugenie's wedding reception in October 2018.
According to Harry, he and Meghan shared the news with William in St George's Hall at Windsor Castle. William's reaction was a simple, 'We must tell Kate.' Harry wrote that both William and Kate Middleton were delighted, with Kate giving 'a big smile and hearty congratulations.'
The Duke of Sussex also described telling King Charles, then Prince of Wales, about the pregnancy. Harry said his father was 'delighted' to learn he would be a grandfather for the fourth time, adding that his 'wide smile warmed me.'
Meghan gave birth to Prince Archie on May 6, 2019, at the Portland Hospital in London. The couple later welcomed a daughter, Princess Lilibet, on June 4, 2021, in California.
In Spare, Harry also shared a humorous anecdote about the birth, admitting he accidentally used the entire canister of laughing gas intended for Meghan during labour. He wrote that when a nurse went to administer the gas, there was none left, and he had to meekly apologise.
