Prince William has offered a rare glimpse into the hobbies of his nine-year-old daughter, Princess Charlotte, revealing her love for dancing and performing. During a visit to Llanelli, Wales, the Prince of Wales spoke with students at Swiss Valley Community Primary School, including 10-year-old Ruby Davies, who recently won a Welsh reciting competition. In a conversation captured on video, William told Ruby that Charlotte shares her enthusiasm for performance, saying, 'Charlotte loves her dancing and performing as well, so I'm going to show her your video when I get home.'
Charlotte's interest in dance mirrors that of her mother, the Princess of Wales, who has been seen enjoying dance on numerous occasions, from a jive with Paddington Bear to a traditional hula dance. Kate has previously spoken about Charlotte's dancing, noting she loves ballet and tap, and has taken her to see The Nutcracker at the Royal Opera House in London. Charlotte began private ballet lessons at the age of three.
The young princess may also be following in the footsteps of her late grandmother, Princess Diana, who dreamed of becoming a ballerina as a child. Despite being deemed too tall at 5'10", Diana remained a passionate supporter of dance, becoming a patron of the English National Ballet. In a memorable moment, she danced with John Travolta at the White House and once performed on stage at the Royal Opera House.
Dance provided solace for Diana during difficult times, as noted by her former ballet teacher Anne Allan in a recent memoir. Allan recalled how Diana 'loved to move and loved to have fun,' finding an outlet for self-expression through dance.
