Prince William has been described as proving he is "just like Princess Diana" after a telling moment was caught on camera during a public engagement on Tuesday, October 6.
The Prince of Wales was visiting Ilminster when he encountered a particularly enthusiastic young royal admirer. Video footage of the exchange has since circulated on X, with many people drawn to how he interacted with the child.
Visit to launch emergency initiative
The visit saw William engage with local residents and businesses to help launch a fresh initiative designed to assist communities in preparing for emergencies and extreme weather events. It followed Somerset experiencing devastating wildfires throughout the summer months, as well as severe flooding during the previous winter.
A recording of Tuesday's interaction was shared with the words: "An adorable video of Prince William talking to a sweet little girl in Ilminster today."
Adorable exchange with young fan
The footage captures the girl eagerly presenting the Prince with her teddy bear, as he poses various questions about it. She then enthusiastically declares: "And I have a dad", prompting widespread laughter as she gestured towards her father.
Visibly thrilled to meet the Prince, she leapt with excitement and engaged him in animated conversation, with many onlookers struck by his effortless charm throughout their exchange.
Comparisons to Princess Diana
One viewer remarked: "He already is the King of Hearts." Another added: "So kind and lovely."
A third observed: "What a beautiful man. He knows how to engage with people. He listens and responds appropriately." A fourth compared him to Princess Diana, writing: "Oh my heart! He's such a natural, just like his dear mother."
Someone else noted: "He's so good with kids, especially since having his own. Just a normal, nice, bloke who takes interest in chatting with people." Another responded: "He appears to be such a kind and caring person. The UK is lucky to have him."
Crowds and Ross Kemp appearance
Reports indicate that eager well-wishers had been queuing from as early as 9am for a chance to see the Prince in Ilminster, where he once again attracted considerable crowds.
During the visit, William was also spotted alongside former EastEnders star Ross Kemp, who serves as an ambassador for the National Emergencies Trust — the organisation behind the newly launched Ready Together initiative in Ilminster. Ross and the Prince of Wales, who holds the position of patron for the trust, discussed the initiative and joined local schoolchildren for a conversation about emergency survival skills.
