Prince William was reportedly 'appalled' by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's reunion with King Charles at Highgrove House, according to royal author Andrew Lownie. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the King and Queen Camilla on Friday, July 13, 2026, marking their first return to the UK together since 2022. They were accompanied by their children, Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five—the first time the King had seen them in person in over four years.
Private Reunion at Highgrove
Buckingham Palace confirmed the private family occasion, stating that King Charles and Queen Camilla hosted the Sussexes at Highgrove earlier in the afternoon. No photographs were released, and royal sources insisted the meeting was simply a grandfather seeing his grandchildren. Meanwhile, Prince William was playing in a charity polo match in Windsor, with reports suggesting he had no plans to meet his brother during the visit.
William's Reaction: 'Appalled'
During an appearance on TalkTV, presenter Jeremy Kyle asked Lownie what William would have made of the reunion. Lownie responded with a single word: 'appalled.' He elaborated: 'I think he feels his father is weak. The only way to deal with Meghan particularly is to be tough.' Lownie added that the children were innocent and entitled to see their grandfather, but noted William's sense of betrayal over Harry's comments about Catherine, Princess of Wales.
'William wants to keep out of this,' Lownie said, describing the Prince of Wales as 'quite stubborn.' He concluded: 'I don't see any rapprochement there.'
