Then on Saturday, it emerged that Harry was now contemplating leaving Meghan and the children behind after all.

The Sussex PR machine highlighted numerous threats facing Harry and the online harassment directed at Meghan, 44, while asserting that even prominent celebrities such as Taylor Swift received 'state-funded security'. The singer was given an escort in London in 2024 after a terror plot targeting one of her concerts was thwarted. A source told The Guardian: 'Their plans to see family... and visit charitable causes close to the duke's heart have been pulled out from under their feet at the 11th hour. He's looking at every option to get the family here safely.'

A spokesperson for the couple told People magazine: 'The issue is whether appropriate and proportionate protective security is being provided throughout the entirety of the visit. The Duke continues to explore every available option to enable the visit to proceed safely and to give his children the opportunity to enjoy the UK.'
