Prince Harry's UK return real reason revealed by royal expert

Prince Harry's return to the UK at the end of August may be linked to the upcoming anniversary of his mother's death, according to royal expert Duncan Larcombe. Speaking to New Magazine, Larcombe suggested the move makes sense given the work Harry wants to do around that milestone.

Expert explains timing of move

Larcombe said: "It's a possibility that Harry's comeback to the UK, in advance of the anniversary of his mother's death, is because of all the work he wants to do around that." He added that it "makes sense for Harry to uproot the family, maybe for a year or so," but noted the move may not be permanent.

The expert questioned whether the couple see themselves as "a Californian couple or a Cotswolds couple," adding: "It feels at the moment like they don't even know."

Background to the Sussexes' return

Harry and Meghan Markle met in 2016 and married in 2018. In 2020, they stepped back from royal duties. The family had been living in the US for six years before returning to the UK at the end of August, an announcement that came less than a month before they landed.

Diana anniversary and legacy

Princess Diana died in 1997 following a car crash in Paris. She was taken to hospital where surgeons tried for two hours to save her life. Buckingham Palace said the Queen and the Prince of Wales were "deeply shocked and distressed" at the time.

Prince Charles broke the news to William and Harry at Balmoral Castle. Diana's ceremonial funeral took place at Westminster Abbey on September 6, 1997, attended by around 2,000 people. Prince Harry is reportedly working on ways to mark the 30th anniversary in 2027, with rumours of a possible documentary.
