Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have landed back in the UK. The prince will no doubt be visiting some of his favourite parts of his home country now that he is back. There’s one special place he’s already paid a visit to this summer.
Althorp House: A Family Connection
In the Northamptonshire countryside sits Althorp House, the Spencer family estate. The Sussexes stayed at Althorp during recent trips to Britain, and the family previously visited Princess Diana’s grave on the estate. The trip marked the first time that Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, visited their grandmother's burial site, which is located on an island inside the estate.
Princess Diana first moved into Althorp in 1975, at age 14, when her father inherited the title of earl and the rights to the estate. The estate is not open to the public.
Harry's Ties and New Home
Harry’s visit to the UK came soon after what would have been Diana’s 65th birthday. The prince has maintained close ties with his uncle, Earl Spencer, and it was rumoured that Prince Harry and Meghan might even have been looking at living there.
Purchasing or renting a private gated estate in the area would offer high perimeter security away from royal property while keeping Harry connected to his mother’s ancestral home. Harry and Meghan have already secured their new home, which is reportedly in the Cotswolds. The couple have lived outside of the UK for six years.
Recent UK Visit and Family Meetings
In July, they visited for a five-day trip to mark the one year countdown to the Invictus Games which will be held in Birmingham in 2027. While they were here, they and their two children were also hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla in a private meeting at Highgrove House.
No details have emerged from the meeting, however it marked the first time that the king has seen his grandchildren in four years. It is understood that the king would welcome the opportunity to see his grandchildren more. Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet have been enrolled at a UK school and will start in September.
