Recent pictures have revealed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stayed at Macula Lodge in the Okavango Delta, Botswana, during their holiday in August 2017. The lodge, whose name translates as “mother of rain,” costs £580 per night and offers thatched huts with outdoor showers overlooking a lagoon.
During their stay, the couple enjoyed a sunset cruise, attempted fishing, and went on an early morning game drive. They also had a three-course meal by an ancient baobab tree at twilight. A source told Reuters that the couple “are like regular guys. They were just relaxed. You could see they were very happy together.”
Upon leaving, Prince Harry gave generous tips to staff members, with one reportedly shedding a tear. The diamond on Meghan’s engagement ring came from Botswana, and the couple first visited the country in July 2016 shortly after they met.
Harry previously visited Botswana in 2007 with his former girlfriend Chelsy Davy, staying at Meno a Kwena near the Boleti river. The couple are set to honeymoon in Namibia, with speculation they could stay at Hoanib Valley Camp, which costs £463 a night and offers seclusion amidst endangered wildlife.
