Prince Harry should make one move to make amends to King Charles, and it could change everything around, royal reporter Jasmine Carey writes.
Since the Duke of Sussex quit royal life six years ago, he has hurled multiple wrecking balls at the Royal Family through TV interviews, a Netflix docuseries, and a book. While the royals may have refrained from commenting on most of what has been said, there is no doubt that it would have hurt.
Stress on King Charles
It would also have caused immeasurable stress for King Charles, who is already trying to lead the monarchy through a challenging time.
That is why Carey hopes rumours that Harry and Meghan Markle may publicly apologise to the monarch are true. They do not have to retract everything they said, but a public apology for the hardships they have caused through their actions could really change everything for Harry, because it will show accountability.
Accountability key
Since 2020, Harry and Meghan have been quick to point the blame at the royal world Harry grew up in, and have made comments aimed at Harry's royal relatives. Yet they have been slow to take accountability for the role they play.
Accountability is key. It may not fix everything, but it shows a willingness to take some of the blame and assign it to themselves, rather than dumping it all on the doorstep of the Palace.

Carey believes this alone could change everything. It will show the King that Harry and Meghan have grown and realised they may have taken it too far with some of their words. It will show him that his youngest son wants the world to know he is somewhat sorry, and confirm that the tensions of the last few years have not all been the fault of the Royal Family.
If Harry and Meghan find a way to publicly apologise, it will almost have the same effect as pressing a reset button. This is what they need more than anything if they want to be involved with the Royal Family again.
While a public apology may not win over everyone and may not prompt Prince William to rush to contact his brother anytime soon, Carey thinks it will be enough for the King to trust Harry's intentions. This could lead to the biggest improvement in their relationship in a long time, affecting Harry's relationship with his father, his relationship with the UK, and maybe even whether he makes public appearances with the royals.
