Unnamed members of the Royal Family are said to have had 'several conversations' about the skin colour of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's son Archie, according to a friend of the Duchess. Omid Scobie, co-author of the biography 'Finding Freedom', made the claim at a Foreign Association event on Friday 18 June.
Scobie stated that there was one conversation that affected the couple 'massively', when someone within the Royal Family shared concerns over the colour of Archie's skin before his birth. He added that there were 'follow up conversations' and other people aware of the discussion, some of whom spoke about it 'not so sympathetically'.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex first made the allegation in their March 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, but did not name the family member involved. It was later insisted that the comments did not come from the Queen or Prince Philip.
When asked if he knew who made the comments, Scobie declined to answer, saying simply 'Pass'. A representative for the Royal Family declined to comment when contacted by OK! magazine.
In response to the Oprah interview, the Queen issued a statement saying the family was 'saddened' by the claims and that the issues raised, 'particularly that of race, are concerning'. Prince William later stated that the Royal Family was 'very much not racist'.
