The chair of Sentebale, a charity founded by Prince Harry, has accused him of 'harassment and bullying at scale' after he resigned from the organisation earlier this week. Dr Sophie Chandauka claimed the Duke of Sussex authorised the release of damaging information without consulting her, describing it as an example of 'unleashing the Sussex machine'.
Prince Harry and co-founder Prince Seeiso of Lesotho stepped down as patrons on Tuesday, citing a breakdown in the relationship with Chandauka that had become 'untenable'. The dispute reportedly arose over a decision to focus fundraising in Africa, leading to the resignation of the board of trustees in solidarity with Harry.
Chandauka, in an interview with Sky News, said the prince's actions constituted bullying. She also released a statement accusing unnamed individuals of 'poor governance, abuse of power, bullying, harassment, misogyny, and misogynoir', and claimed there had been a cover-up.
A source close to the former trustees dismissed Chandauka's allegations as baseless. Representatives for Prince Harry have not commented on the accusations.
Sentebale, established in 2006, supports children and adolescents affected by HIV and AIDS in Lesotho and Botswana. Harry had previously spoken warmly of the charity, crediting it with giving him an 'education about living' after his mother's death.
