Prince Harry is reportedly "expecting an apology" from the Royal Family and is "just as angry" about their treatment of him and Meghan Markle as when he left six years ago. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved back to Britain from California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet this week, after splitting from the Firm and relocating to the US in 2020.
Resentment remains
The couple's relationship with the royals grew bitter over the intervening years, fuelled by accusations from the Sussexes' camp and their public airing of private matters, including an Oprah Winfrey interview. Harry, who has not commented on his reasons for returning to the UK, is said to still be harbouring resentment towards the Palace.
A source told the Daily Mail: "Friends were expecting to hear noises of contrition and humility. Instead, there will be no imminent mea culpa from Harry by the sounds of things. Far from it, in fact. He is still in that Oprah mindset."
Apology still expected
They added: "They were agog to hear he still feels angry with members of the Royal Family, is still frustrated by the 'men in grey suits' who surround his father, and still expects an apology." The source suggested Harry's mindset has not changed from a 2023 interview in which he said he was waiting for the Palace to take "accountability" and apologise to Meghan.
Return to Britain
Despite the enduring acrimony, the duke and duchess are expected to settle in Britain for an "extended period" of time, retaining their status as non-working royals. Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, have been enrolled in British schools, ready to start in September.
A number of questions remain unanswered, including whether the family will be provided with round-the-clock taxpayer-funded security, which they lost their right to after stepping down as senior royals. Harry previously said it was too dangerous to bring his wife and children to the UK with the reduced security he was entitled to post-Megxit, but they did not appear to have close police protection when they arrived this week.
