The Prince and Princess of Wales have confirmed that Prince George will attend Eton College from September, following in the footsteps of his father, Prince William. The 13-year-old second-in-line to the throne is currently in his final term at Lambrook School, which he has attended since 2022. The £63,000-a-year all-boys school is a 12-minute drive from the family's home at Forest Lodge.
A statement from Kensington Palace said: 'Kensington Palace can confirm that Prince George will attend Eton College from September.' The announcement ends months of speculation, with other potential schools including Marlborough College and Oundle School. William and Kate were reportedly seen touring Eton with George as early as 2023.
Prince George will leave behind his siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, who will continue at Lambrook without him. It is not yet known whether George will board at Eton, though his father recently revealed that George often boards part-time at Lambrook.
Prince William attended Eton between 1995 and 2000, boarding at Manor House. He was the most senior royal to attend the school, which was also attended by Prince Harry, the Duke of Kent, and 20 former Prime Ministers. William gained 12 GCSEs and three A-levels at Eton before studying at St Andrew's University.
Royal expert Jennie Bond noted that George's experience may differ from his father's. 'When William was 13, his parents were officially separated, and boarding school became a haven for him,' she said. 'Things are very different for George, who has been brought up in a household full of love and harmony.'
