Princess Charlotte made her first official royal engagement alongside her brother Prince George during a garden party in Victoria, Canada. The 16-month-old royal was seen walking for the first time as she explored a petting zoo with goats, horses, sheep, quails and a rabbit.
Charlotte showed a particular fondness for balloons, hugging them and reaching for another child's yellow balloon. Prince William intervened, asking, 'Would you like a balloon Charlotte?' before picking her up. Later, she petted a rabbit and a dog named Moose, even sitting on the dog and bouncing.
Prince George, three, also joined in, asking for a balloon after a guitarist made one for Charlotte. The children were entertained by bubble machines while waiting for the royal couple. The event included refreshments like fruit juice and tea for adults.
Military families present noted the relaxed atmosphere. Lucas Kenward, commanding officer of HMCS Edmonton, said, 'It was nice to see they have kids that are like all our kids, down to earth and interacting.' His fiancée Andrea Callaghan added that Charlotte seemed to be teething and 'always hungry.'
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are on a week-long tour of Canada, with their children staying with nanny Maria Borrallo during other engagements. The family arrived in Victoria late Saturday night.
