In a clip shared on TikTok by @lollystoun, Prince Edward greets a young blind boy named Corey, gently touching his hand so the boy knows he is there. Corey had come with a handmade card, and when the Duke of Edinburgh was told about it, he replied: "Oh, really?" His companion explained: "That's all he wanted to do, is give you a card."
Opening the card, Edward said: "That's very kind, thank you very much indeed." He then acknowledged the effort behind it, noting that they had been "trying desperately to keep it out of the rain." Admiring the card again, he added: "Very good, excellent, well, that's very, very kind."
Royal fans praise the interaction
The clip drew a wave of warm comments, with one person writing: "Prince Edward is an amazing gentleman." Another was struck by the way Edward touched the boy's hand upon learning he was blind, calling it "lovely."
Others used the moment to champion the Duke and his wife, Sophie. "I think Edward and Sophie [Prince Edward's wife] are the best royals. No drama, very down to earth," one commenter said. Another declared: "I'm not a royalist, but I think Edward and Sophie should be in charge."
A quieter royal life
Edward, 62, has long been admired for his commitment to public service and his drama-free approach to royal life. He tends to keep a lower public profile than King Charles III, Anne, Princess Royal and other senior royals, but moments like this remind onlookers why he remains a favourite.
In June, Edward and Sophie joined King Charles III on a landmark tour of Portugal to celebrate the UK's ties with the country. The couple spent three days in Lisbon and Porto, with engagements reflecting causes close to their hearts, including the Duke of Edinburgh Award for Edward and women's rights for Sophie.
Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from royal duties, the Edinburghs have enjoyed a slightly bigger public profile. Away from official roles, however, they appear to prefer life away from publicity, staying under the radar at their Bagshot Park estate in Surrey.
