Patsy Kensit has confirmed her return to Emmerdale as Sadie King after a 20-year absence, describing the decision as a "hard yes" and expressing excitement about stepping back into the character's shoes.
The actress, now 58, played Sadie King from 2004 to 2006, becoming a core member of the ITV soap and featuring in some of its most dramatic storylines. Sadie will step back inside The Woolpack as part of a new storyline, with her arrival signalled by a helicopter landing in the Yorkshire Dales.
A Return Marked by Drama
ITV bosses have teased that the peace and quiet of the Dales will be shattered by Sadie's return, bringing back the schemes, affairs, and betrayals that defined her original stint. Patsy left the soap in 2006 and went on to appear in other projects including Holby City.
Speaking to the ECHO and other press, Patsy said: "I’m pathologically polite as a person, and Sadie just isn’t. Some of the things she would say, I used to live vicariously through her. I would never talk to anyone like that. I had so much fun and when we got the call it was a hard yes from me, absolutely. I came up to meet Laura [Emmerdale producer] and it’s wonderful. It’s overwhelming when you come back because it’s such a well-oiled machine."
Fans' Long-Standing Question
Patsy added: "Over the last 20 years, the most questions I've had ever about work is 'When are you going back to Emmerdale?' and that’s a testament to how much people love the show and they really enjoyed the character. It’s a fantastic cast and I’m in great company. Emmerdale is the star and we all come together and I’m very very lucky."
The return marks a significant moment for the soap, with Sadie King set to resume her place in the village after two decades away.
